The entire development phase of the ZETADYN 4 was dominated by one single topic: the operation of the elevator motor without the motor contactors required by EN 81-1, but with the same, constant safety standard. A requirement not that easy to accomplish, especially without making compromises on, e.g., positively driven relay contacts, safety relays or mains contactors. The solution of using two-channel triggering of the function Safe Torque Off (STO) compliant with EN 61800-5-2 (SIL 3) meets the requirements of EN81-1 while setting the standard when it comes to safety. This is impressively confirmed by the TÜV Rheinland certification. The short circuiting of the motor windings of synchronous motors prevents uncontrolled acceleration of the motor, guaranteeing safe emergency operation by manually opening the motor brakes. The ZETADYN 4 continues to dispose over this added feature which was already highly-esteemed in its predecessors. While implementing this, the principle of the contactorless frequency inverter was consistently applied and an electronic version was developed.
