ABM Greiffenberger - Energy efficient drives for electric vehicles

For decades, ABM Greiffenberger has been one of the world leading manufacturers of electric drive unit systems for battery powered vehicles. The company, located in the Bavarian town Marktredwitz, offers efficient system solutions from a single source for high performance with low energy use. At the LogiMAT in Stuttgart, ABM presents among other things the drive motor 45 kW. This motor increases the performance of electric vehicles considerably.

Manufacturers of electric vehicles need a well thought-out drive technology with best performance. In addition to economical driving techniques and good aerodynamics, in order to travel long distances, first and foremost efficient drive components are required. Electric vehicles must reach the permissible speeds in town as well as on urban motorways and country roads. In its AC-motor portfolio, ABM offers suitable solutions up to 45kW for light electric vehicles of the classes L7e and M1 with formally not restricted speed.

The maximum torque of 130 Nm of the 45kW drive motor creates the precondition for dynamic accelerating and high driving pleasure. The lightweight construction with a weight of only 43 kilogram fulfills the high demands on vehicle weight and payload. The large field weakening range of the motor allows high climbing ability and fast driving without manual transmission. Thanks to high power density and efficient air cooling, this drive reaches an efficiency of up to 93 %. The motor reaches a maximum speed of 8,000 rpm.

In Stuttgart, ABM also shows energy efficient Sinochron motors for auxiliary units and attachments as they are used in commercial vehicles, busses, agricultural machinery and construction machines, but also in the area of material handling. The drive is a permanently energized synchronous motor with high efficiency, great power density and compact dimensions. The special design of the rotor with built-in magnets leads to an almost ideal sinusoidal distribution of the magnetic flux. Therefore, Sinochron motors are especially well suited for sensorless controlled operation. That way, they are an economic alternative to expensive servo drives.

As there is no external magnetization, there are no losses in the rotor through magnetizing currents. Therefore, Sinochron motors of ABM Greiffenberger reach a constantly high efficiency almost in the complete speed range. The rotor’s design is simple and robust. The complete sensor technology for speed measurement and position detection with its connectors can be left out. This ensures very high reliability and availability. Sinochron motors are predestined for all applications with constant torque in the complete speed range and heavily fluctuating loads.

High competence as system supplier

ABM Greiffenberger offers gearboxes, motors, brakes and drive controls from a single source and also has a high competence as system supplier for customer-specific solutions. Problematic steps between various suppliers are thus avoided. The established competence of the company stretches over all processes: from the in-house construction of tools and fixtures and an aluminium-casting foundry, CNC-machining of the housings to the manufacturing of shafts and cutting of gear teeth, from the motor winding technology to the assembly and final testing of the products.

In addition to an intensive research and development work, ABM Greiffenberger attaches great importance to reliable production. The company uses the latest technology like laser-assisted measurement systems. Endurance tests and 100% checks round off this package of measures.
