New Eaton Solution for the HVAC Industry Advances Energy Savings for Motors in Commercial Buildings by up to 45 Percent

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation announced the release of the H-Max Series variable frequency drive, which is engineered to increase energy savings, lower utility costs and reduce emissions in commercial buildings. With an industry-leading energy control algorithm, the H-Max Series drive sets a new standard in efficiency and stability over traditional variable frequency control methods. Customers whose HVAC systems do not yet use adjustable frequency drives to control motors can realize energy savings up to 45 percent over their current control method.

“As the world’s demand for power continues to grow, Eaton is creating new technologies to help reduce overall energy consumption,” said Matt Lorenz, vice president and general manager, Eaton’s Industrial Controls Division. “The H-Max Series drive delivers a higher level of system efficiency than previously possible for commercial buildings.”

Commercial building managers who are already using an adjustable frequency drive solution can realize an additional energy and emissions savings of up to 10 percent by switching to an H-Max drive. By electronically controlling the power supplied to a motor, adjustable frequency drives dynamically adjust the motor’s speed to closely match system power requirements. Combining new technologies like advanced DC capacitors and new-generation insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs), with smarter functions like a real-time clock and calendar, the H-Max Series drives are engineered to provide ultra-efficient operations. These advancements, coupled with Eaton’s patented Active Energy Control, help customers design and operate extremely energy efficient HVAC systems. Since the drives can be tuned to actual energy needs, tapering system requirements during off hours, weekends, and holidays, will allow the customer to see significant cost savings.
