Parker Hannifin adds integrated safety technology to its Compax3M Series servo drives

Parker Hannifin, the global leader in motion and control technologies offers the Compax3M series of servo drives with an Advanced Safety Option Card enabling machine builders to implement functions including: safe torque off (STO), safe stop 1 (SS1), Safe stop 2 (SS2), safely Limited Speed (SLS), safe operating stop (SOS), safely limited increment (SLI), safe direction (SDI) and safe input/output signals.

Compax3M drives have long offered the STO (safe torque off) function which provides protection against unexpected start-up. However, in many cases, this is no longer sufficient, as cleaning or set-up is frequently required while the machine is powered.

All machinery manufactured today must comply with 2006/42/EC which has been effective from December 12th 2009 and replaced the previous directive: 98/37/EC. This is not always easy to achieve. The technical burden is high, especially for servo drives, which are used when high dynamic movements and speed are important. These applications require drives to be able to perform advanced safety functions as part of their onboard functionality and without the addition of external components.

Using Parker’s Advanced Safety Option Card and depending on the motor feedback combination used, performance level PL d or Performance Level PL e in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1 can be achieved.
