Frequency inverters for elevators

A modern elevator facility is a complex engineering solution with increased requirements for reliability, safety of the equipment and creation of comfortable conditions for its passengers. The same requirements apply to freight and passenger elevators, which operate with an even greater load. In any lift system several electric motors are used for the movement of the cabin and opening-closing of the entrance doors. Most of the solutions currently in operation operate on the principle of mechanical commutation of the start and stop of these motors and their reversal.

Although this solution is characterized by simplicity and high maintainability, it has a number of drawbacks:

  • jerks when starting and stopping the cab;
  • positioning errors when the cabin stops below or above the door opening;
  • noisy door operation;
  • considerable overloading of the electromechanical part due to continuous operation in start-stop-reverse mode, which leads to its rapid wear;
  • high power consumption.

All these disadvantages can be avoided, if the electric motor control system is modernized by installing a frequency inverter for elevators. The advantages of control of synchronous and asynchronous motors by means of frequency inverters are well known, but the operating mode of elevator equipment has its own characteristics, requires a number of additional functions, so a number of companies producing such control electronics have developed and supply the market with specialized frequency inverters for elevators having a number of features and additional possibilities in setting and motor control.

Features of elevator frequency inverters

As the majority of frequency inverters, the elevator series of such equipment operates on the basis of an inverter and a controlled generator. It supplies the load with current of preset frequency and voltage settings. In addition to the basic functions inherent in such equipment, the elevator frequency inverter has a number of specific features, including:

  • Possibility to work with electric motors of different types (synchronous, asynchronous);
  • Providing high torque when starting the cab at low engine speeds;
  • Ensuring quiet operation of the engines;
  • Several motor speeds;
  • Built-in algorithm for calculating the braking speed and cab approach to the floor;
  • The ability to adjust the acceleration and deceleration curves;
  • Many models provide emergency operation from a backup power supply in case of a power outage.

In addition, the elevator frequency inverter allows adjustment via computer and has several types of interfaces for connection to remote dispatching systems.

Such solutions are already widely used in our country both in new construction and in modernization of the lift facilities of the old housing stock. Moreover, if the task of developing new systems is already carried out using this principle of motor control, the modernization of old elevators also does not have any difficulties. In the latter case, it is required to select and adjust the frequency inverter competently, based on such characteristics of the elevator operation:

  • electric motor power;
  • lift capacity;
  • parameters of acceleration and deceleration of cab movement;
  • maximum speed of the cab.

The elevator control system may also require minor modernization.

It should be noted that experiments on the introduction of such systems in our country began back in 1995, and today most of the new, especially high-speed, elevators are built on the basis of specialized series of frequency inverters for the elevator industry. Today the number of lifts operating in our country under the control of elevator frequency inverters amounts to tens of thousands, and they show clear advantages in comparison with the old systems, which are expressed in:

  • economy;
  • of greater reliability;
  • the smoothness of the cabin movement;
  • positioning accuracy;
  • minimal noise generated by the electric motors;
  • lower maintenance and repair costs.

Elevator VFD manufacturers

The most well-known and widespread solutions in this area are products of Danfoss. It was its equipment that was used to build the first lifts based on frequency inverters in our country.

However, today there are enough manufacturers in the EU market to have an opportunity to choose a specialized frequency inverter, the parameters of which correspond to the requirements of a particular project, including the cost.

So, if you need elevator frequency inverters, you can find them in our catalog among the products of such brands:

All of the above manufacturers have in their product range specialized lift series of frequency inverters, which significantly expands the opportunities of operating companies, as well as companies engaged in maintenance, repair and modernization of elevator facilities.

If you need frequency inverters for the elevator industry, please contact our company. With us you can not only choose and buy specialized equipment of the brands listed above, but also get:

  • assistance in choosing the optimal model;
  • consultation during the design phase of the elevator control system;
  • recommendations for installation and configuration of the equipment;
  • assistance with commissioning both remotely and with our employee's visit to the customer's site;
  • post-warranty repair of frequency inverters.

All equipment presented in our shop is covered by warranty, and warranty repairs are performed by the manufacturer's service centers located in Estonia.
